Third Party Only

Third Party Fire & Theft

Fully Comprehensive

Fully Comprehensive. Accidental Damage cover is included on comprehensive van insurance policies. This covers you for damage caused to your van following an accident - even if the accident is deemed to be your fault. In summary, Fully Comprehensive combines Third Party, Fire & Theft plus Accidental damage under one van insurance policy.

Third Party, Fire & Theft. Commonly referred to as TP, F&T. Fire and Theft cover is included on most van insurance policies. This extra cover in reality is almost a necessity. Without it, replacing your van following fire or theft could represent a very significant cost for a tradesman. You don’t want to be off the road.

This covers you in case your van catches fire or is stolen. In most cases, a claim under the fire or theft sections will not result in your ‘no claims bonus’ being reduced. And of course, the Third Party cover referred to in the section above is automatically included.

Third Party only cover. Also know as TPO, Road Risk Cover. This is covered by every van insurance policy and is the minimum amount of cover you need to drive a van in Ireland. As well as being a legal requirement, it's also there to protect you and your assets if you’re involved in an accident. The ‘first party ‘is you – the van insurance policy holder. The insurance company is the ‘second party’.

So say you were involved in a simple accident where you bumped into the rear end of a car in front of you. There was damage caused to the car and the owner of the car is holding you responsible for causing this damage. Your van insurer will take over all negotiations with the owner of the car – who is known as the ‘third party’. They will cover (pay for) the damage caused to the car under a section of your van insurance policy called - third party property damage.

To take it a step further, say the driver of the car into which you accidently bumped, says he has sustained whip lash injuries as a result of the accident. Again, your van insurance company will take over all negotiations in respect of the alleged injuries and pay any compensation due under a section called 'Third Party Injury'.
